Rihanna kills at Superbowl, Harry Styles drowns in a corsage, and Sam Smith steals the thunder in a blow-up latex jumpsuit. Oh, yes! New York Fashion Week produced a fresh face we hope will trend for make-up.

Rihanna is pregnant! Yes, there was a Superbowl – but all everyone is talking about was the awesome Half Time Show and that Ri-Ri rocked it with a perfect preggers bod.

Re-defining that pregnancy is a celebration that a woman can portray in any way she pleases, the Barbadian singer delivered a string of hits while looking like a red Valentine hoisted on a platform above the football fans. According to The New York Times the over-suit/breast plate of leather was by Loewe, while the coats – both leather – were by Alaïa.

While the performance and reveal were enough to suck the oxygen from any other fashion event, there were notables that have to be mentioned.

Harry Styles took the corsage to new heights. The Nina Ricci velvet suit – may have overdone the ‘flower’ which was so large and placed so high on his lapel – or was it a neckpiece – that it partially obscured the singer’s visage.

Sam Smith meanwhile went with a latex jumpsuit designed by Harri. While some on social media suggested the inflated jumpsuit was a homage to David Bowie‘s 1973 shiny jumpsuit with inflatable legs by Kansai Yamamoto, the designer clarified to the AP press that the goal was to create a look for the singer that people had never seen before.

Sam received bully commentary after his Grammy performance; the designer’s creation which was paired with platform heels, succeeded with an alternative silhouette that was fresh and creative.

Other standouts on our red carpet round up were Angela Bassett, Salma Hayek and Jodie Turner-Smith. 

Fashion Week – yup that’s happening this week too – produced a new make-up look that is clean, with natural hues and a white emphases around the eyes.

Above: Salma Hayek in a fitted black leather corset with ‘biker jacket’ as skirt in a homage to the motorbike crowd, took the look to couture. The fishnet stockings and mid calf platform boots finished the edgy ensemble.

Below: Also in black, Angela Bassett went with a Georges Chakra sculptured blazer in hand woven velvet tubes with ruffled silk faille sleeves details and crepe trousers, paired with Sarah Flint heels.

Proving that pregnancy can be shown many different ways, but specifically in homage to Rihanna’s breakthrough looks from her first pregnancy where she flaunted her beautiful belly, (l) Camille Purcell aka Kamille and (r) Jessie J get in on the act.
