The Taylor Hackford directed The Comedian stars Robert De Niro as a washed-up and embittered standup comic who can’t seem to find his groove in the world, which has moved on from his insult shtick. His staged hostility turns too real when he gets into it with a heckler and gets sentenced to prison with community service. This is where he meets Harmony (Leslie Mann) who will become his unlikely companion on a comeback trail strewn with twists, turns and a remarkable cast (including Danny De Vito and Harvey Keitel). The HFPA’s Scott Orlin and Mirai Konishi caught up with Mann (aka Mrs. Judd Apatow) and asked her about working with De Niro and her own relationship to comedy.
