Directed by Michael Showalter and written by real-life couple Emily V. Gordon and Kumail Nanjiani, The Big Sick was a breakout success in Sundance and has been widely praised as a fresh and authentic take on romantic comedies. That is no doubt a credit to the creators as well as to the fact that the story is based on Gordon (in the film she is played by filmmaker/actress Zoe Kazan) and Nanjiani’s real life experience of romance, which takes an unexpected turn through life-threatening illness. Golden Globe nominee Ray Romano and Globe-winner Holly Hunter round out the cast. We spoke to all of them about the film.
