Hugo Lara

Since 2002, he has directed the film site Corre Cámara (www.correcamara.com.mx) while contributing to movie critic, research, book editing, and audiovisual production.

Awarded first prize in IMCINE and DICINE magazine’s inaugural film criticism contest (1991), he has received multiple national and international recognitions for his work in film and media. His criticism, essays, and research have been published in outlets like El Universal, Dicine, Viceversa, and the Cineteca Nacional’s monthly program. He was co-editor for cinema at Reforma newspaper (2007) and has been a contributor to Cinemanía magazine since 1996 to 2013.

As an author or co-author, he has published Pancho Villa en el cine (Procine, 2023), Zapata en el cine (editor, 2019), Dos amantes furtivos: cine y teatro mexicanos (2016), Ciudad de cine (2011), *Luces, cámara, acción: cinefotógrafos del cine mexicano 1931-2011* (2011), Cine y revolución (editor, 2010), Cine antropológico mexicano (INAH, 2009), and Una ciudad inventada por el cine (2006), among others. He curated the photographic exhibition La Ciudad del Cine (2008) and co-curated Cine y Revolución (2010).

Member of Mexico’s National System of Art Creators (SNCA) for Screenwriting, 2023. Director, screenwriter, and producer. Produced the feature film Ojos que no ven (2022); wrote, directed, and produced Cuando los hijos regresan (2017), winner of Best Original Score at the Huelva Film Festival (Spain); and wrote, directed, and produced the short film Cuatro minutos (2021). Previously, he produced the TV series La calle, el aula y la pantalla (2012). His work spans documentaries (Fiesta en Santa Rosa Xochiac, 2014), short films (Cuatro minutos, 2021; Punto muerto, 1994), and cultural television programming.

He has served as an instructor at the Educational Television Training Center (Centro de Entrenamiento de Televisión Educativa) and as a professor at Universidad Iberoamericana, in addition to lecturing at national and international forums. He has trained in screenwriting under Luis Mandoki, Xavier Robles, Robert McKee, Syd Field, Linda Seger, Michael Hauge, and John Truby. His institutional collaborations include work with the Mexican Film Institute (IMCINE), the National Audiovisual Media Coordination (CNMA), the General Directorate of Educational Television (DGTVE), TV UNAM, and others.
