Vintage Cannes: 1982- A Great Duo

Director Constantin Costa-GavrasMissing was a major hit in Cannes 1982. A family drama set against the 1973 Chilean coup d’état that ousted elected president Salvador Allende and led to the apprehension, torture, and death of hundreds of people, Missing won the Palme d’Or that year (split with the equally political Turkish film Yol ). Its star, Jack Lemmon, won the Best Actor award for his searing portrayal of a father searching in vain for his son. Harrison Ford, fresh from the mega-success of Raiders of the Lost Ark in the previous year, was on hand to do the honors. Missing went on to receive five Golden Globe nominations.
