Nominee Profile 2022: Caitriona Balfe, “Belfast”

After being nominated previously for Best Television Actress in a Drama Series for four consecutive years, from 2016 to 2019, for her work in the time-travel historical drama adventure series Outlander, Caitriona Balfe is now a nominee on the film side as well, with a nod for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for her turn opposite Jamie Dornan in Kenneth Branagh’s tender coming-of-age tale Belfast. Born in 1979 in Dublin, Ireland, Balfe grew up in the small town of Tydavnet, in a large family with four biological siblings and two foster siblings, where her parents instilled a love of reading at an early age.

Nominee Profile 2022: Martin Short, “Only Murders in the Building”

Funnyman Martin Short reteamed with his longtime friend and collaborator Steve Martin in the Golden Globes-nominated Only Murders in the Building (for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy), and received his first Golden Globe nomination as Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy, putting Short and Martin up against each other in the same category. The show follows three New York apartment residents, played by Martin, Short and Selena Gomez, who share a passion for the same true-crime podcast.

Nominee Profile 2022: Oscar Isaac, “Scenes from a Marriage”

The year 2021 might well be called Oscar Isaac’s year: this year, the Golden Globe winner has been seen in three critically acclaimed projects, all of which premiered globally at the Venice Film Festival: The Card Counter by Paul Schrader, Dune by Denis Villeneuve and HBOs Scenes from a Marriage – it was the last that brought him his third Golden Globe nomination. This year he was nominated for Best Actor – Limited, Series, Anthology or a Motion Picture made for Television – for the role of Jonathan Levy in an English-language remake of Ingmar Bergman’s iconic television series of the same name created by Hagai Levi.
