UCLA Film Archives Celebrate Joan Blondell, Golden Globe Nominee

Joan Blondell, two times Golden Globe nominee, will be celebrated in a five-week series of screenings, with 14 of her movies being shown at the Billy Wilder Theater of the Hammer Museum in Westwood, Los Angeles, starting om Friday, November 4.   The movies were restored by the University of California Los Angeles Film Archives, one of the leading film restoration institutions in the world, and a frequent recipient of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's restoration grants.

Diversity Reigns At The 18th Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival

Actress Jacqueline Fernandez was the host of  the 18th Jio Mami – Mumbai Film Festival’s opening ceremony, held at the Royal Opera House, India's only surviving opera house, a newly restored auditorium with three tiers has 574 seats, full with Bollywood celebrities like Aamir Khan, Jaya Bachchan, Kalki Koechlin, Anurag Kashyap, Shyam Benegal and Huma Qureshi among others. Khan took the stage to present the International Excellence in Cinema Award to Chinese film director and screenwriter Jia Zhangke, Bachchan presented the award for Indian Excellence in Cinema to director and screenwriter Sai Paranjpye.

3000 Nights (Palestine)

Since its inception cinema has offered numerous movies depicting life in prison but always from the perspective of male directors and mostly about the plight of imprisoned men. 3000 Nights is the first prison film about female prisoners made by a female director, Palestinian Mai Masri, who chose to shed light on the predicament of tens of thousands of Palestinians languishing in Israeli jails through the eyes of a woman: a school teacher, Layal (played by Maisa Abd Ehladi).
