Jack Lemmon

John Uhler “Jack” Lemmon III (born in Newton, MA, on February 8, 1925, died in Los Angeles on June 27, 2001) is an unusual movie star, because he did not play typical masculine heroes, but a great variety of everyman characters. He worked in the theatre and on television, before signing a 7-year contract with Columbia Pictures and being cast in his first film, It Should Happen to You (1954) by George Cukor, as a shy documentary filmmaker who falls in love with a girl (Judy Holliday) obsessed with seeing her name on billboards.

Golden Globes Winner Philip Seymour Hoffman, 46, Has Died

One of the great pleasures of the past Sundance film festival was screening A Most Wanted Man at the Eccles, on January 19. Philip Seymour Hoffman’s performance in Anton Corbijn’s taut adaptation of the Le Carré thriller is nothing short of exceptional, as we noted at the time, the sort of intense interpretation which was his hallmark, and now sadly his legacy: He is in almost every scene of that film and yet you want to see more of him! Hoffman, 46, who was found dead in his New York apartment, was a five-time Golden Globe nominee and had won the Award for best actor in 2006 for his role in Capote.
