CinemaCon Wrap: The Industry Is Back, while “Simultaneous Release Is Dead”

Interestingly, CinemaCon 2022, which gathered several thousands of exhibitors from all over the world in the Colosseum at Caesars Palace for four intense days of presentations by Hollywood studios, kicked off with National Association of Theatre Owners CEO John Fithian declaring that “simultaneous release is dead as a serious business model, and piracy is what killed it”. Yesterday was the final day of CinemaCon 2022 packed schedule wrapped up with Lionsgate presentation of the studio’s slate that followed two full days of exciting events by The Walt Disney Studios, Universal Pictures, and Paramount Pictures Studio expressing their confidence in the fact that moviegoers are back to theaters, and so is the industry, and sharing their release plans for the coming months ahead.

“Nancy Meyers, Come on Down.”

Although never a contestant on The Price is Right, the Golden Globe nominee Nancy Meyers, a Philadelphia transplant, got her professional start on the CBS gameshow as a production assistant. Needless to say, though she would not win living room furniture or even a new car, Meyers’s success at spinning the big wheel would eventually take her to write and direct such seminal Hollywood hits as What Women Want, Something’s Gotta Give, The Holiday and It’s Complicated, leading her to become one of the most successful auteurs in the business.
