2022 Cannes International Film Festival

After two years under the stormy clouds of COVID, Cannes comes back in full force. Films, stars, filmmakers - and fashion, of course.

When a lady is presented the opportunity to celebrate her 75th anniversary, you better believe she wants the event to unfold orderly, without chaos, on time and with good weather. While the past two years of the pandemic has humbled more than a few celebratory events, the grand dame of Cannes is coming out of her two-year celibacy by pulling out all the stops for her diamond jubilee.

It seems the importance that Ibero-American cinema has been acquiring in the film industry or on the international festival circuit does not matter. With all the effort applied to this edition of the Cannes International Festival - the in-person return after two years affected by the pandemic - in the end, this film fest, considered among the most important in the world, has pretty much forgotten Ibero-American cinema, again.

Over the years Cannes has stood out as a fashion showcase. This year promises to be even more intriguing as the 75th Cannes Film Festival returns to full strength after Covid impact.

A 75th birthday should be enough reason for a big celebration, but after being forced into a very much reduced and belated edition in 2021 due to the Covid pandemic, Cannes will this year pull out all the stops, starting on opening night. Michel Hazanavicius’ newest film Final Cut, starring his The Artist discovery Bérénice Bejo, will open the festival on May 17.

Cannes 1968  was the festival that never ended. It made perfect sense in a year marked by turmoil, drastic change, growth spurs, counterculture, and an explosion of creativity and talent, all at the same time.
