2023 LGBTQ+ Month

The modern television landscape is populated with many LGBTQI+ characters; including in such stalwartly popular shows as Ted Lasso, Elite, Heartstopper, Yellowjackets, House of the Dragon, FBI: Most Wanted, The Walking Dead: World Beyond and Loki. And while shows such as Will & Grace, Glee and Pose were groundbreaking in their inclusion and representation, a look back on the history of television, especially its sitcoms, shows a plethora of characters who in today’s world would be recognized as gay, but in television’s early days, were hidden in their sexuality.

On November 13, 1998, a film opened in India and played to almost full houses for about three weeks. On December 1, some 200 women belonging to a right-wing Hindu fundamentalist political party, the Shiv Sena, stormed a matinee screening of the film in Mumbai, vandalizing the theater and screaming slogans, shutting down the film.

In celebration of Pride Month we give a shout out to a few of our many LGBTQ+ Golden Globe nominees and winners from 80 years of paying homage to the best in Entertainment. They have been an inspiration to many, both on and off screen - and also on the red carpet.
