1954 was an intense year and a tough summer for the newly married Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe. They were living in a suite at the Lexington Hotel in New York, not far from where her famous skirt-blowing scene was filmed in front of the Trans-Lux 52nd Street Theater, for the movie The Seven Year Itch, directed by Billy Wilder, a three-times Golden Globe winner.

A rare black and white photograph of Marilyn Monroe with her Golden Globe at the 1952 awards ceremony has been discovered at a West Hollywood memorabilia shop and is now in the HFPA archives. The original print, a bit yellowed at the edges but in good condition for its age, shows the actress seated at a table with her statuette as her unknown tablemate looks on.

For over 40 years the HFPA has recorded famous and celebrated actresses, actors and filmmakers. The world's largest collection of its kind - over 10,000  items - is now in the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences Margaret Herrick Library.

In 1960 Marilyn Monroe attended the 17th Golden Globes, held on Tuesday, March 8 at the Cocoanut Grove, Ambassador Hotel, when she won as Best Actress for the comedy Some Like It Hot, directed by Billy Wilder costarring Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis. On that occasion, she wore a white fur stole over a white dress.

  It was more than half a century ago when the Hollywood Foreign Press Association recognized the chameleon-like acting skills of a newcomer to the big screen. In 1957 the HFPA nominated Eli Wallach for Best Actor Award for his role in Elia Kazan's Baby Doll.
