Steven Spielberg, nominated as Best Director at the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards for West Side Story, won his first of three Golden Globes out of a record 18 nominations in 1994 for directing Schindler’s List. The 2009 recipient of the Cecil B.

Four years ago, HFPA Austrian member, Elisabeth Sereda, sat down with Golden Globe and Cecil B. deMille award winner Steven Spielberg for our first podcast in celebration of our 75th anniversary.

Steven Spielberg, 75, is a two-time Golden Globe winner, a Cecil  B. deMille recipient, and has another 11 nominations to his credit.

Steven Spielberg receives his first Best Director Golden Globe for Schindler’s List at the 51st ceremonies held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Saturday January 22, 1994.   He would receive two more Golden Globes in 1999: Best Director and producer of the Best Motion Picture drama for Saving Private Ryan.

In 2018, Steven Spielberg, now 75, gave a speech to young students at the Academy of Achievement. In it, he said that dreams always come from behind you, never from right in front of your eyes.

Born December 18, 1946, in Cincinnati Ohio, Steven Allan Spielberg made his way to Hollywood via a brief stint at CSULB and went on to direct a handful of short films and TV episodes before making his feature debut with The Sugarland Express. Now with 57 credits as a director and in honor of his 75th birthday, we chose ten early works, pre-2000, that define his career:The Sugarland Express, 1974This crime drama film is his third film – after two TV movies, one of them the now-classic Duel – and his theatrical feature directorial debut.

Multi Golden Globe-winner Steven Spielberg takes on a genre he has never tackled before in his long career – the musical, and at 75 he conveys an energy and enthusiasm rare to see on the screen today. Furthermore, his is not a film adaptation of just any musical.

Beginning in 1952 when the Cecil B.  deMille Award was presented to its namesake visionary director, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has awarded its most prestigious prize 66 times.

An old film industry wisdom says to never remake a great movie. That is unless you’re Steven Spielberg.
