It may be too early but the first wave of the international rollout of Wonder Woman 1984, starring Gal Gadot,  indicates that so far, it’s not beginning to look a lot like Christmas at the box office. Director Patty Jenkins’ eagerly anticipated Wonder Woman sequel, also starring Pedro Pascal, Kristen Wiig and Chris Pine, took in an estimated $38.

Riding a wave of strong reviews and massive fanfare, Warner Bros. ’ Wonder Woman kept rival Universal’s new entry The Mummy in its tomb.

This weekend Wonder Woman snagged $101. 4 million and led the charts in a heart racing US debut.

Flying into blockbuster season like the fierce warrior she was trained to be, Wonder Woman has impressed critics and been hailed as no less than summer’s savior – not to mention credited with shattering the superhero glass ceiling. That is a lot of weight on one woman’s shoulders, but not a problem if that woman is Gal Gadot, the Israeli actress whose resume includes a two-year stint in the army, a Miss Israel title, a modeling portfolio and Hollywood credits in the Fast & Furious and Batman v Superman franchises.
