Saleem Albeik

Saleem Albeik is a Palestinian-French film critic, novelist, editor, and researcher specializing in cinema, currently residing in Paris. His literary portfolio includes three novels: The Cock’s Eye (2022, Hachette-Antoine-Nofel, Beirut), Scenario (2019), and Two Tickets to Saffuriyah (2017). He has also published a poetry collection titled Nothing On You But Water (2015), a short story collection named Cherries, or Red Fruit for Cheesecake (2011), and a prose collection, Sins of a Refugee (2008).

In film criticism, Albeik’s latest book, Biography of Palestinian Cinema: Limitations of Spaces and Characters, was released in 2025 by the Institute for Palestine Studies in Beirut. His first work on cinema, Reflections on Palestinian Film, was published in 2023 by the Arab Institute for Research & Publishing in Amman. He is the founder and editor-in-chief of the independent cultural magazine Romman and contributes weekly film critiques to Alquds Alarabi, a London-based pan-Arab newspaper. As an accredited journalist, he covers several prominent European film festivals, particularly Cannes, Venice, and Berlin.

Beyond his writing, Albeik works independently as a programmer, consultant, and reader for various festivals and institutes. He served as an official jury member for the Carthage Film Festival in 2024. He is a Golden Globes voter. In 2022, he was invited to participate in the Sight & Sound poll of the greatest films of all time. Additionally, he is a voter in the Académie des Lumière in Paris, and a member of the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI).
