At the Golden Globes ceremony held on March 10, 1964, at the Cocoanut Grove, the winner of that prize was Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow, directed by Vittorio De Sica and starring Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni.

In 1963 Omar Sharif won Best Supporting Actor for his role in Lawrence of Arabia - which also won the Golden Globe for Best Film – Drama. In so doing, he became the first Egyptian - and African - to win a Golden Globe.

On February 23, 1956, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association held the 13th Golden Globes at the Cocoanut Grove in the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. The lavish nightclub, known as Hollywood’s “first playground of the stars,” was the top venue of the Golden Globes for 10 of the next 12 years.

In the 1950s, there were a few years when multiple films were awarded the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film (now Best Non-English Language Film), and 1955 was one of those years. The 12th Golden Globes were held on February 24, 1955, at the Ambassador Hotel, and, befitting the organization’s international roots, four foreign films were voted the winners by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

The 1954 awards were held jointly by the Hollywood Foreign Correspondents Association (HFCA) and the Foreign Press Association of Hollywood (FPAH), the two organizations that in 1955 would merge to form the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). The invitation came from the International Press of Hollywood, presenting the Golden Globe and World Film Favorites Awards for 1953, and took place on Friday, January 22, 1954, at Club Casa Del Mar in Santa Monica.
