Golden Globes

The HFPA’s progress towards reform is continuing, as this week we have put more key pieces in place that will help lead the transformational changes that we promised less than a month ago. We said on May 6th that we would move swiftly to show our commitment to reform and that we would regularly update the industry on our progress.

As we work to fully implement the reforms the HFPA has committed to, we will update this website with all changes as they are adopted. On Thursday, May 20, the members of the HFPA overwhelmingly approved a Code of Professional and Ethical Conduct, setting forth the values, expectations, and standards of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association that are essential to achieving our shared mission and goals.

As we work to fully implement the reforms the HFPA has committed to, we will update this website with all changes as they are adopted. On Wednesday, May 19, the Association signed a contract with Convercent, a company that manages the world’s most complex and advanced global ethics programs, to establish a system allowing anyone – inside or outside of the organization – to report any complaints of misconduct by the HFPA or its members on an anonymous basis.

Regardless of the next air date of the Golden Globes, implementing transformational changes as quickly - and as thoughtfully - as possible remains the top priority for our organization. We invite our partners in the industry to the table to work with us on the systemic reform that is long overdue, both in our organization as well as within the industry at large.

We are fully committed to ensuring our membership is reflective of the communities around the world who love film, tv and the artists inspiring and educating them.   We understand that we need to bring in Black members, as well as members from other underrepresented backgrounds, and we will immediately work to implement an action plan to achieve these goals as soon as possible.

If ever a visionary was worthy of a lifetime achievement award, that individual has to be Norman Lear. Not only did he change the face of American television but through his political activism and philanthropy, he set an example for all America.

Sometimes hope is the worst thing you can give. Jamie Foxx learned that when he was visiting death row for the movie Redemption: The Stan Tookie Williams Story.

Barry Adelman, dcp’s Executive Vice President for Television, has overseen the Golden Globes’ for over 25 years, first as a writer and soon after as an executive producer. He learned a valuable lesson early on:  “The one thing we all learned together during that time was when something is happening let it happen.

Ricky Gervais will resume hosting duties for a record fifth time at the 77th Annual Golden Globe Awards airing live on NBC coast to coast Sunday, January 5, 2020 at 8:00 p. m.
