It was a royal launch this week as the Golden Globes saluted Helen Mirren (who's played a queen in several films) and Jessica Parker (who played a princess on Broadway) in the presence of Hollywood royalty, including Carol Burnett, at the Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills. The evening marked the first Golden Eve, which was taped for airing on CBS Jan.

The air was chilly Jan 8 but the mood was warm and sunny Jan 8 as the Golden Globes offered a red-carpet rollout and clues for what to expect at the Jan 11 ceremony. On hand for the event were Globes president Helen Hoehne, host Nikki Glaser, show exec Barry Adelman, Glenn Weiss (one of the two Globes showrunners and exec producers; Ricky Kirshner was unable to attend); Chef Nobu Matsuhisa, whose restaurant will again cater the food Sunday night; and Beverly Hills Mayor Sharona Nazarian, More than 100 media members were the first to see the new configuration of the oxblood-colored carpet.

Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi is nominated for two Golden Globes this year, as director and writer of It Was Just an Accident. The film itself is nominated for Best Drama as well as Best Non-English-Language film, though it was officially submitted by France.
