2022 Black History Month

The culmination of the NAACP Image Awards sparkled on the red carpet, where conversation veered away from fashion into substantive talk on the importance of celebrating Black excellence - while looking fine and fierce. .

2016 was Taraji P. Henson's year: she starred in Hidden Figures and won a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a drama series for Empire – and fittingly handed out cookies to her peers.

Friday night the NAACP Image Awards streamed its final pre-show presentation out of the week-long virtual experience inviting fans to join the Image Awards celebration of the outstanding achievements and performances of people of color across more than 80 competitive categories. The live show is set to air on BET tonight, February 26 with the Golden Globe nominee Anthony Anderson hosting, Golden Globe nominee Samuel L.

He was the favorite in 2005 to win Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for his portrayal of Ray Charles in Taylor Hackford’s Ray and gave the funniest and liveliest acceptance speech of the night until dedicating his Golden Globe to his grandma Estelle. That moment brought tears.

The heyday of Film Noir was in the 1940s and 50s in the post-WWII period.  The films characterized by black and white photography, stylishly shot, voiceovers, flashbacks, mostly based on hard-boiled crime fiction depicted flawed characters that encompassed detectives, losers, grifters, femmes fatales.

Despite a long, trailblazing career as a popular singer of jazz, swing, and pop music on the Broadway stage and in concerts, and Oscar and Emmy nominations, Ethel Waters is hardly known or recognized today among younger generations of movie and music lovers. Waters became the second Black actress to be nominated for an Academy Award, in 1949 for Pinky, a movie about passing, in which white actress Jeanne Crain played a light-skinned girl.
